Court dismisses motion to appeal PDP Congress ruling by sacked executives

A Rivers State High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a motion on notice seeking leave to appeal as an interested party in the suit filed by William Fialasoika and twenty-four others against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the party’s congresses in the state. The sacked PDP Rivers State Chairman, Chukwuemeka Aaron, had filed the motion on behalf of those purportedly elected as state executives. Also included were Oye Fubara Igenewari, representing those elected as local government executives, and ThankGod Beke, representing ward executives. They sought the court’s permission to appeal the judgment that removed them from office as interested parties. In his ruling on Friday, Justice Stephen Jumbo dismissed the application on the grounds that the PDP, as the defendant in the original suit, had already filed an appeal against the judgment that nullified the congresses. Dangote Refinery slashes ex-depot petrol price to #865 per litre

Eu slaps 25 percent retaliatory tariffs on E21billion Worth of US goods

   The European Union is set to apply retaliatory tariffs on around €21 billion worth of U.S. products, including soybeans, motorcycles, and orange juice. EU member states on Wednesday approved 25% tariffs on a broad range of U.S. products — including almonds, orange juice, poultry, soybeans, steel, aluminium, tobacco, and yachts — in retaliation for similar 25% tariffs the United States imposed on steel and aluminium imports from the bloc. This development follows the European Commission's announcement that all 27 EU member states assented to the measures on Wednesday, according to Politico. "The EU considers U.S. tariffs unjustified and damaging, causing economic harm to both sides, as well as the global economy. Four Nigeria Gospel singers Die in Ghastly Accident

  The Ogun State Commander and Public Information Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okupe, has confirmed the death of four Nigerian gospel singers in Ogun State. Naija News learnt that Okupe, in a statement on Monday, disclosed that the singers lost their lives when they were involved in a fatal car accident along the Ikorodu/Sagamu Road in Ogun State. She disclosed the identities of the victims: Evangelist Ayodeji Kekerejesu, Evangelist lyanu Joseph, Monjolajesu Oluwapamilerin, and Opeyemi Adesina. Okupe explained that the accident occurred after the vehicle conveying the gospel singers crashed into another vehicle. The FRSC official added that the gospel singers from the same family were in one of the two vehicles that collided and died instantly on the spot. Two arrested for car theft in bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals for alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy and car theft. The suspects— 30-year-old Ibrahim Uzeru from Kashere Santuraki in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State and 35-year-old John Paul from the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi State— were apprehended after a stolen vehicle was traced to their possession. According to a statement issued by the Spokesman of the Command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the arrest followed a report made on March 29, 2025, by Yahaya Haruna, a 41-year-old resident of Gidan Gona, Bauchi. Man kills mother,sister in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a man, Victor Lorjaal, for allegedly killing his mother, Mrs. Victoria Lorjaal, and his elder sister, Brenda Lorjaal, with a machete. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, stating that it occurred on Tuesday around 7:10 a.m. on a farm in Aba Ile camp, Itaji-Ekiti. “One of the children of the deceased, who is an eyewitness, narrated that while working with the suspect on the farm, he suddenly left him and went to meet their mother and sister at a distant location where they were also working,” Abutu said.
